The Research & Campaigns Team focuses on two main goals at Citizens Advice:

  1. Providing Essential Advice: Helping people with the problems they face.

  2. Improving Policies and Practices: Working to change unfair or harmful policies and practices based on the issues clients face.

We use the information and data from clients to drive changes, such as improving unfair legislation (like aspects of Universal Credit rules) and addressing harmful practices (such as abuses related to payday loans).

Research & Campaigns role

  • As part of the team, you will:

    • Analyse Data: Examine information on Casebook, our case notes resource, to spot trends.

    • Identify Issues: Recognize problems specific to Oxfordshire, like private rentals, as well as broader national issues.

    • Run Campaigns: Provide narrative and statistical data to run campaigns that address these issues.

    • Engage with Partners: Share information with third parties, such as Oxford City and County Councils.

    • Work with Communications: Collaborate with the Communications team to publicize issues and statistics in the media.

    • Public Engagement: Participate in national Citizens Advice campaigns and initiatives.

Training will be provided, and you’ll have access to a strong support network.

  • It is an attractive volunteer role for people who may not want to advise clients but are passionate about social justice. It also works well for volunteers who have, or have had, a client-facing role.

  • Ideally we ask for 8 hours per week, which can be over one day or spread over two days, for at least 12 months. We can be flexible so come and talk to us.

  • Our volunteers come from all kinds of backgrounds, and we especially welcome applications from disabled people, those with physical or mental health conditions, LGBT+ and non-binary individuals, and people from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities. If you're interested in becoming an adviser and want to talk about flexible options for location, timing, or how we can support you, please get in touch with us.
